Ministry of Education and Skills Development Toll Free Telephone Counseling Facility
Press Release
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development informs all students, staff and teachers that it has opened a toll free telephone counseling facility which will start operating on the 15th June 2011 from 1000hrs to 2200hrs on daily basis.
The name of the centre is Youth Counseling on Air (YOCA). The short code number to dial is 17250 and is accessible via all mobile network service providers and landlines.
The objectives of the toll free telephone counseling facility are to enable young people to:
• Express personal, social, educational and vocational issues they face on day to day basis.
• Open up about seeking help rather than keeping issues bottled up.
• Got more reliable information on various issues that succumb to peer pressure.
• Get 12 hr counseling service.
• Get confidential and prompt response for crisis counseling needs.
• Be empowered with knowledge and life skills to handle the complex challenges they face today in view of HIV & AIDS and Wellness issues.
• Make informed decisions on issues of sexuality, alcohol and substance abuse, grief counseling and related psychosocial issues.
• Obtain Adolescence Sexual Reproductive health Information in a child friendly environment.
Teachers will also be accessing the facility for
• Psychosocial support
• Individual counseling
• Counseling advise and information on how best to handle counseling issues
• Database of Referral centre; counseling service providers

SCHOOLS ESSAY COMPETITION
The Botswana Institute of Bankers, in conjunction with its Corporate Members and the Public Education Programme on Banking of the Bank of Botswana, invites entries from pupils in Junior Community and Senior Secondary Schools in Botswana, as well as from pupils in upper Primary School (Standard 5-7).
The theme of the 2011 Schools Essay Competition is:
“Discuss ways in which bank fraud can be controlled and prevented in Botswana”
Seven awards, sponsored by the Bank of Botswana, Barclays Bank of Botswana, Standard Chartered Band and First National Bank of Botswana will be made as follows:
UPPER PRIMARY SCHOOLS (STANDARD 5-7)
i. The best essay from a pupil in upper primary in a Non-Urban Primary School.
ii. The best essay from a pupil in upper primary in an Urban Primary School.
SECONDARY SCHOOLS
i. The best essay from a pupil in a Non-Urban Junior Secondary School.
ii. The best essay from a pupil in a Non-Urban Senior Secondary School.
iii. The best essay from a pupil in an Urban Junior Secondary School.
iv. The best essay from a pupil in an Urban Senior Secondary School.
v. The best overall essay.
All students from all Secondary Schools and pupils in upper Primary School (Standards 5-7) in Botswana are encouraged to enter. All entries must be submitted through the relevant school administration. Entries will not be received directly from the students themselves.

Youth and Climate Change
The World Youth Report focus on youth and climate change, and is intended to highlight the important role young people play in addressing climate change, and to offer suggestions on how young people might be more effectively integrated as individuals and collective agents of change within the realm of climate change adaptation and mitigation. The Report is designated to assist youth and youth organizations in educating themselves and to become more actively involved in combating the threat of climate change. ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT
Job Purpose
To be part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate Accounting function.
Duties and Responsibilities
· To receive and process all invoices, expense forms and requests for payment.
· Verify calculations and input codes in the Accounts system in an accurate manner.
· To maintain and reconcile the Direct Debit mandates.
· To deal with daily transactions for the petty cash and ensure that reconciliations are completed on a weekly basis.
· To ensure all filing is done in a timely and accurate manner.
· Prepare cheques for payment.
· To ensure that all post is sent daily.
Skills/Attributes Required
· Previous experience in an Accounts office.
· Strong Microsoft and Excel skills.
· Ideally be studying for the AAT (Association of Accounting Technician or equivalent).
· Good organisation and administrative skills.
· Excellent attention to detail.

2011 F.G. Mogae Scholarship Fund Applications Open
Barclays Bank of Botswana said applications for the 2011 Barclays F.G. Mogae Scholarship Fund were open as of 26th May 2011.
A statement from the bank stated that since its inception in 2008, 15 young Batswana have benefited from the fund and the number will increase to 20 after the 2011 selection process has been finalised in July.
The main aim of the scholarship fund is the development of young people in Botswana. Barclays has committed P1.5 million for individuals who wish to pursue a Masters degree in areas of study that will contribute to the sustainable development of Botswana.
Education is key to the development of any nation and Barclays Bank of Botswana is committed to contributing to the achievements of the national vision pillar of Botswana being an educated nation by 2016.
The criteria used to select candidates include excellent academic record, financial need, and involvement in community as well as positive personal attributes. The selection committee will include selected members of the Barclays Bank of Botswana management committee, Vice Chancellor of the University of Botswana as well as former president, Festus Mogae.
The application for the scholarship can be collected from any Barclays branch across the country. The deadline for the application is the 13th of June 2011.
